Saturday Stew

Saturday Stew

We have been pretty busy outside, and we needed a meal that would feed us for a few days so Morgyn made us a giant beef stew! We also made some Pilsner brews for when we need a break from the heat! It’s me! It’s been so hard getting used to the heat this year! It’s been a lot hotter than last year that’s for sure! Making a pan sauce first. Frying up the beef! Browning the beef more and adding garlic and salts.. Adding the vegetables! This time we didn’t put potatoes in the stew itself but made a batch of mash potatoes for the stew to go on top of! Adding more vegetables, whole tomatoes and white beans! Yum.. Here is the start of the Pilsner home brewed ale we made..it is now finished! Cheers! Me in my Summer wear! Here is the finished plate! Morgyn added some of our favorite oil from the EVOO and vinegar specialty shop in #Kamloops. Morgyn’s beef stew is delicious! Spring has Sprung

Spring has Sprung

It’s official! Our hot days are here in the Cariboo of BC! This week we’ve had temps up to 33C yesterday! We’ve been spending a lot of time outside in our greenhouse and in the yard. Morgyn has been keeping up with mowing our lawn, and on just over a half an acre it can be quite the job! We have mosquitoes out here that are 3x the size as the ones in Vancouver on the Coast. It can be a pain to be working on a job outside and have to retreat inside because they swarm you..little ankle biters! I did over 79 tomato and flower transplants last week. It was quite the job but now they are all watered in in our greenhouse and Morgyn set up a hose for me to water them. She also set up a automatic watering system for our rows where our vegetables will go eventually. Today it is already too hot for me to be outside! Nicandras, around 11 or so ready to be transplanted! Daturas and Tomatoes It’s me in the #greenhouse! All the tomato transplants! So many! 79 of them to be exact. Daturas and Nicandras! Look how bushy this Nicandra is! This plant is really cool, it produces little purple bell type flowers, then goes to seed in what look like little lanterns. It is a nightshade and not edible. It’s me! Ready for #Gardening!   Here are the most recent transplants. There are a few tomatoes mixed up along side of them. More flowers! Tao Dog likes to keep me company when I’m in the greenhouse! Our new DIY: Hoop House

Our new DIY: Hoop House

Well last year we didn’t have a big garden as we were new to the growing seasons here and didn’t expect to lose our hot peppers and tomato plants to a freak frost in June! Twice! Needless to say we were disheartened but so was everyone in this little town! This year we want to have a lot of tomatoes so Morgyn and I built a new hoop house here! It is bigger than our last one in Abbotsford, and we are excited for our tomato sprouts to get big so we can house them in our greenhouse! Here are the pictures of the building of our new Hoop House 2017.. First Morgyn had to set up the structure, we reused some of the same materials we had from our last Hoop House in Abbotsford.. It’s Me! Infront of where our Hoop House will be we made rows of well composted soil for whatever vegetable crops we want to have this year! Maybe squashes? We had a couple of big pumpkins a few years back, It will be nice to grow some more! Maybe strawberries too? Yum! Here is our first hoop erected! We are getting there! 🙂 My first cooking lesson started that day! Cheers! With Morgyn’s help I made some really great Quesadillas! Yay! Little Darwin, they are so happy that the snow is all gone! We had a bit of a scare last week though as Humble Dog came home with a few wood ticks on her! One had really effected her badly, she was a little weak for a few days, but all better now!...
