Spring has Sprung

Spring has Sprung

It’s official! Our hot days are here in the Cariboo of BC! This week we’ve had temps up to 33C yesterday! We’ve been spending a lot of time outside in our greenhouse and in the yard. Morgyn has been keeping up with mowing our lawn, and on just over a half an acre it can be quite the job! We have mosquitoes out here that are 3x the size as the ones in Vancouver on the Coast. It can be a pain to be working on a job outside and have to retreat inside because they swarm you..little ankle biters! I did over 79 tomato and flower transplants last week. It was quite the job but now they are all watered in in our greenhouse and Morgyn set up a hose for me to water them. She also set up a automatic watering system for our rows where our vegetables will go eventually. Today it is already too hot for me to be outside! Nicandras, around 11 or so ready to be transplanted! Daturas and Tomatoes It’s me in the #greenhouse! All the tomato transplants! So many! 79 of them to be exact. Daturas and Nicandras! Look how bushy this Nicandra is! This plant is really cool, it produces little purple bell type flowers, then goes to seed in what look like little lanterns. It is a nightshade and not edible. It’s me! Ready for #Gardening!   Here are the most recent transplants. There are a few tomatoes mixed up along side of them. More flowers! Tao Dog likes to keep me company when I’m in the greenhouse! Holidays in the Cariboo

Holidays in the Cariboo

With it being down to -20 Celsius degrees these last few weeks winter has kicked in full blast along with snow, and yes we got our Christmas decorations up a bit earlier than last year. It was fun putting up the tree, and the little kitties sure love the ornaments! A trick my Mom taught me when I was a kid was to put ornaments that aren’t breakable at the bottom of the tree incase a cat does find a new toy on the tree it wont break or hurt them or your decorations! It worked so far they have found 2 that they like the most 🙂 I also put up our Christmas village on top of our bookshelf along with another set of Christmas lights I found in one of our boxes of decorations. Our dogs sure love the snow! Darwin loves to get his face deep in snow piles and then run around with a snow beard! He is the cutest! Tao dog loves running all around the yard and slipping and sliding as he glides back inside the mud room..Humble Dog well she just loves to play with the puppies outside. I don’t think it matters what the weather is for them to have a good time, they are all healthy happy pups! There has been really great Christmas specials on the TV. Gusto TV has a bunch of great recipe shows for holiday cooking/baking from Spencer Watts (Fish the Dish), some great recipes from the ladies at One World Kitchen, Snoop and Martha Stewart, as well as Jamie Oliver. DIY has been pumping out...
Yard Work on the Hottest Day June 5th 2016

Yard Work on the Hottest Day June 5th 2016

So it has been super hot this weekend. It is even sunnier on the Coast with a high of 33C in the Fraser Valley! We were going to visit the Coast but not when it is this hot out! Instead we decided to stay at home and do some yard work. We went to a local feed shop in town and got some horse manure that had finished so we can use it right away in our garden! We took out a few shovels when we got home and put the trailer full of dirt on to the parts where our vegetable garden will be! It is hard work but I sure felt like a farmer today 🙂 It was a nice spot where we got the manure from. They told us to come back when we needed more. We think we will be doing a few more trailer loads so we can create a nice garden spot. Tao Dog and our other dogs love it out here! We are going to build a fence so that they don’t wander off into our neighbours yards as they have been. People seem to like our dogs though and someone gave Humble Dog a big rack of fresh rib bones from some sort of game! She came home trotting so proudly holding her rack of ribs so high for every one of our dogs to see. We took off the bones so they all could share and wow they were quiet for quite some time! 🙂 We have really nice neighbours here and everyone seems to have a dog or 2....
