Our new DIY: Hoop House

Our new DIY: Hoop House

Well last year we didn’t have a big garden as we were new to the growing seasons here and didn’t expect to lose our hot peppers and tomato plants to a freak frost in June! Twice! Needless to say we were disheartened but so was everyone in this little town! This year we want to have a lot of tomatoes so Morgyn and I built a new hoop house here! It is bigger than our last one in Abbotsford, and we are excited for our tomato sprouts to get big so we can house them in our greenhouse! Here are the pictures of the building of our new Hoop House 2017.. First Morgyn had to set up the structure, we reused some of the same materials we had from our last Hoop House in Abbotsford.. It’s Me! Infront of where our Hoop House will be we made rows of well composted soil for whatever vegetable crops we want to have this year! Maybe squashes? We had a couple of big pumpkins a few years back, It will be nice to grow some more! Maybe strawberries too? Yum! Here is our first hoop erected! We are getting there! 🙂 My first cooking lesson started that day! Cheers! With Morgyn’s help I made some really great Quesadillas! Yay! Little Darwin, they are so happy that the snow is all gone! We had a bit of a scare last week though as Humble Dog came home with a few wood ticks on her! One had really effected her badly, she was a little weak for a few days, but all better now!...
Transplants Look at Them Grow!

Transplants Look at Them Grow!

It was a nice last few days here in the Valley. We had sun and the greenhouse was radiating with warmth. We had to open up the sides to let it cool! On the upside of things our seedlings are loving it in there! We had all our pepper seedlings and flower seedlings out there today in the Hoop House so they could enjoy some sun! Things are looking pretty good in there. I did about 19 more transplants today and Morgyn did so many I couldn’t keep track! Here are the photos! Hope you enjoy! Check out our new Pepper Twitter account if you can at @DadsPeppers we have the photo of the Dads in a jar! Cheers folks it’s...
Some early gardening

Some early gardening

It is still a few weeks before last frost, but we have warmth in our greenhouse and have put dirt and fertilizer on a few trays for some of our flowers and vegetables! We let the chickens out in the yard to eat up some bugs in the lawn and enjoy the nice weather that we have been having too! Our dogs don’t seem to mind the chickens except little Darwin who likes to bark at our big orange Clucky lady bird! She can defend herself if she wanted to but it is a game they play together. She does her own thing in the grass and Darwin barks at her from the deck! Yes it sure is like Spring has arrived. We had our first small fire in our firepit, burned up some cardboard, and old corn husks and tomato stalks. Our kitchen herbs are loving this weather, everything is coming back now even the Chamomile! We were delighted to see that our Raspberry and Blueberry bushes made it through winter and are budding already! Pretty cool maybe we will see some raspberries and blueberries on them this year! We are unsure of our Asparagus, hoping it will get bigger this year, but we know it takes time for that to take off. Happy gardening folks!...
