Zinnias

Zinnias

I started some of these seeds a few months ago. The foliage was green and the leaves thick. I thought for sure these were Borage! So I took extra good care of them seeing as I thought they were my only Borage that seeded..I transplanted them into a hanging basket and put them in a safe spot in the gazebo. Seeing as I thought they were Borage and curious what the leaves tasted like (I read you can eat the whole Borage plant) I tried some. They didn’t really taste the same as the other Borage leaves I ate on the other plants. See I thought that my Borage were all Foxgloves as the leaves started off looking the same. And as I knew Foxgloves are poisonous I didn’t dare try them. Then we were looking at a plant one night and decided it must be bolting Foxglove because it looked like it was going to flower soon but we hadn’t seen those kind of flower pods before on any of our other Foxgloves. I did a bit of research and found that that plant wasn’t a Foxglove it was a Borage! So we tried the leaves and wow were we blown away! Such a great Cucumber taste! Back to the other “Borage” plant. I had been watching it grow and then one day it started to show signs that it will be blossoming soon! I was a bit curious at why this “Borage” was looked different than my other Borages. Then it blossomed, and it was a yellow flower! Well Borage certainly didn’t produce yellow flowers! So we...
Canada Day Gardening

Canada Day Gardening

Yesterday was Canada Day and we took refuge in our Gazebo for the most of it while the temperatures outside were almost in the 30s! Today is suppose to be even hotter. We can’t remember a Canada long weekend being this hot! Our plants are loving it though and so are the bees 🙂 It was also Morgyn’s birthday this weekend and we spent it with her Mum and Auntie who was down visiting. Morgyn and her Mum made chicken and we whipped up a honey garlic sauce. For one of her gifts Morgyn’s Mum gave us a bottle of Krauss Berry Farms Strawberry wine which will be interesting to compare with our Strawberry Wine that we have made so far this year! Also she gave her some tasting glasses in the shapes of a couple of cowgirl boots! Very cool! It was a lovely weekend. First Snapdragons of the year!
