Our new DIY: Hoop House

Well last year we didn’t have a big garden as we were new to the growing seasons here and didn’t expect to lose our hot peppers and tomato plants to a freak frost in June! Twice! Needless to say we were disheartened but so was everyone in this little town! This year we want to have a lot of tomatoes so Morgyn and I built a new hoop house here! It is bigger than our last one in Abbotsford, and we are excited for our tomato sprouts to get big so we can house them in our greenhouse! Here are the pictures of the building of our new Hoop House 2017.. First Morgyn had to set up the structure, we reused some of the same materials we had from our last Hoop House in Abbotsford.. It’s Me! Infront of where our Hoop House will be we made rows of well composted soil for whatever vegetable crops we want to have this year! Maybe squashes? We had a couple of big pumpkins a few years back, It will be nice to grow some more! Maybe strawberries too? Yum! Here is our first hoop erected! We are getting there! 🙂 My first cooking lesson started that day! Cheers! With Morgyn’s help I made some really great Quesadillas! Yay! Little Darwin, they are so happy that the snow is all gone! We had a bit of a scare last week though as Humble Dog came home with a few wood ticks on her! One had really effected her badly, she was a little weak for a few days, but all better now!...

Eggplant Curry

It’s been awhile since we have made a curry. It is always a great time to make curry but nothing beats a warm meal on a chilly afternoon. We have bought eggplant before but have found that the larger ones are sort of bitter and not so tasty. We watch a lot of food shows on the TV and something that has been coming up a lot has been dishes using this vegetable. We have seen that the smaller eggplants have much more flavour and so we bought a few to try out. It took us a few days to figure out how we were going to incorporate our vegetable into our dish. We really wanted to make something that was especially flavorful to make. It’s always fun making a curry with my sweetie because she tends to make things more authentic. What I mean is that she makes things from scratch, traditionally and not from a pre mixed jar. Not that you can’t have a delicious curry using something pre made but it is part of the experience in our kitchen to make the recipe ourselves. Here are the photos that I took while she was creating this awesome eggplant curry. First Morgyn fried up the eggplant Gorgeous colour! Next she made the body of the curry, and she added back the eggplant Let it simmer for a short while Can you guess the secret ingredient? Our curry was placed on a bed of home made coconut lime rice....

Spaghetti and Meatballs 2016

We had some Rempel Meats pork and wanted to make something delicious with it, so Morgyn whipped up a quick meatball recipe and then made her delicious spaghetti sauce for some pasta and we had spaghetti and meatballs! It was a classic and yummy meal. Taste of the meatballs were great and slightly resembled a tasty Chinese sausage a bit. We are unsure of why that taste came through though! Really awesome meal...
