Halloween Brews

Halloween Brews

We started a few batches of beer last week! Making beer at home is a great because it isn’t as expensive as store bought beer and it makes a fair bit of beer from the kit. We like the “Coopers” beer kits the best. Right now we have a Nut Brown Ale and a English Bitter on the go. They should be ready by Halloween if we want to bottle them then! Racking off our Nut Brown Ale! We have it on a heat mat to keep it at fermenting level Little Shadow on the Ikea chair..he is our little...

Making Cherry Wine

It has been hot here in Vancouver BC for the last week or two that is for sure! Even though Summer hasn’t officially arrived it has on our thermostats! According to the thermostat on our chicken coop it has reached 30C and above and holy smokes is it nice to have A/C in our living room! Being outside mind you is like living in some tropical place that is for sure! We have to go outside to water our peppers and flowers, and now we have things in our pea bed as well! We have a few squash and pumpkins growing in it, a few Cesar beans, and some different varieties of peas such as purple cow peas and sweet shelling peas. Our plants over all are doing quite well, had a bit of aphids on our Borage but I sprayed it and then cut off the damaged ends. Morgyn installed a hose for me to water my plants out in front and she has a nice new wand for her hose as well for the peppers. We also bought some tomato plants so we can do some tomato sauce again this fall. Everyone’s plants are producing flowers and fruit these days, our friends and family tell and show photos of their pretty flowers and awesome vegetables they are growing. It is really amazing this year the things people have in their gardens! Our friends in town have a few fruit trees and asked us if we’d like to come and pick some cherries! We of course thought of all the things we could do with them then an...
First time at the UBREW

First time at the UBREW

We sure have been busy these last few weeks inside and out in the yard! Inside we’ve been getting more organized with shelving units and it’s opened up so many spaces in our house like in our kitchen! It’s given us more incentive to do more projects like buy new appliances for our beer and other food that we find just isn’t staying as cool as we’d like in our old fridge. Here is a photo of how we organized a section in our kitchen.. Okay so we have made our fair share of kit beers at home and it’s been fun but this time we thought we’d give a local UBREW a try. It was a pretty good price and the beer comes out COLD when it’s done and carbonated! It was a fun experience, and they were super helpful at the Fraser Highway Brewmasters in Langley B.C. Here are the photos I took with our phone!...
